It’s the 80s revisited.
7/10

Manchester based Pale Waves have been creating something of a stir recently and will release their debut album later this year. If this EP is a taster for that album then prepare to go back to the 80s with its homage to Prince, a touch of the Cure and a little hint of The Go-Go’s. Opening track New Year’s Eve is all about the teen angst of not wanting to be alone on NYE. The Tide is all sparkly guitars and glitter pop vocals. My Obsession has a bigger sound, like The Cure, minus the cleverness. Heavenly is dripping with 80s pop sensibilities and dramatic vocals. Pale Waves re-create the 80’s sound they obviously love with delight and will appeal to an audience who weren’t even born in that decade.
