PAUL FERGUSON: REMOTE VIEWING EP REVIEW

REMOTE VIEWING EP
(DEAD RADIO STATION)
Killing Joke drummer’s solo beat.
8/10

Paul Ferguson created the brutal drumming that accompanies the best Killing Joke songs, and here he shows he’s no mean songwriter in his own right. It may be called an EP but with seven songs clocking in at thirty minutes it’s really a mini-album. Hungry Ghosts sets the tone with its tribal drumming and heavy techno dubs with the words spoken like urban poetry. Reboot conjures up images of decaying urban city ghettos. Terrible Warriors has a deep electro beat and the words are hypnotic, part mystical. XBOX is the centrepiece of the album with its righteous anger and revolutionary seditionaries’ poetry, with Ferguson half demanding and half asking: What Are you Gonna Do? This is an album that layers poetry and beauty over a heavy tribal beat of malignant paranoia and ominous threat.
